The village of San Gerardo de Rivas -in map-, situated at the base of Cerro Chirripó in Parque La Amistad –a UNESCO World Heritage– , has a population of four hundred and twelve, from which fifty two are non-locals who have made their homes, permanent or temporary, in the area.

Surrounded by astonishing landscapes and spotted with cozy country houses, the village is the merge point for three major rivers that bring crystaline waters from the highest mountain more…
